Facebook launches the beta version of Facebook Spaces, a new app that enables users to connect with their friends and family in a more interactive virtual reality environment. Facebook Spaces is available for Oculus Rift and Touch at the Oculus Store. The app provides a new platform for social media where users have the opportunity to enjoy a virtual reality background which reduces greater distances among users bringing relationships closer. In Facebook Spaces, there is an avatar which represents user whose appearance is based on the user's photo, although it can be further modified with choices of eye color, hairstyle and facial features that would best fit with the person's identity. After a virtual person is created, users can use Messenger app to connect with friends and use the 360-degree spaces for interacting. The selfie stick can be utilized to further manipulate photos in the app for the VR environment.

VR Becomes a Reality

Oculus VR was bought by Facebook for an accurate amount of US$2 billion. The deal included $400 million in cash, along with 23.1 million in Facebook shares. Another $300 million would be included in the deal if and whenever certain milestones would hit.In the F8 developer conference, Facebook showed a demo of socializing in a virtual reality. Two employees were engaged in a virtual space, even though they were actually standing 30 miles apart.

VR Space

Facebook Spaces is not exactly ready for the mainstream yet due to its high cost. It is quite expensive to use the VR space that is required to access Facebook Spaces. It cost around $1,000 for the hardware, plus the computer to run it, so it is still used as a beta and experimental technology.

Issues to Solve

There are still a number of issues that need to be addressed before Facebook Spaces can be launched as a true VR experience, which is the reason, the software had been released in beta form. The main and significant problem is the entry to the VR side, especially when many users may not have many friends who have bought the Oculus platform.Actually this need to be work out systematically and seamlessly to encourage more and more people to use the VR environment. Otherwise, many users will log on once or twice and then just go back to regular Facebook, something they are already comfortable with and they can quickly open on all their devices. In fact, there are still a lot of technological issues as well.
